Last week, we ended with Corey doing a walk around and finding a broken leaf spring right before we were leaving Corpus Christi, Texas, to head to the Lippert Getaway in Pine Mountain, Georgia.

This was our second broken leaf spring, but this time, it was our fault. We messed up by not changing the front springs when we changed out both rear springs after the first one broke.

Now, we know what you guys are thinking…it is because we are over weight. That just isn’t the case, though. It was our concern as well after we broke the first one, so we weighed ourselves immediately and found that we were actually under weight and since then, have removed even more weight from the rig.

It could have been the really horrible road that we took to get into the campground we were staying at or maybe it was just a bad batch of springs. Either way, we should have changed all four when the first one broke, and we recommend that you change them all if this ever happens to you.

Our main pieces of advice we have for you now that we have gone through this twice are:

Think outside the RV box! We found our springs at a spring shop last time and a boat trailer shop this time. Don’t get boxed in to thinking that you have to use an RV shop or dealership to get parts or help.
Have a good (but still small) bottle jack. We did not have this the first time we had to change the leaf springs, and it made this time go much faster!
If you have a travel trailer, consider adding a leveling system (we have the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 TT Leveling Kit: https://amzn.to/2ZYET7o ). It is a game changer on it’s own, but it also makes jobs like these 10 times easier!
