The Haredis, often referred to as Ultra-Orthodox Jews are protesting against the Israeli government's proposed bill that could strike their exemption from mandatory army service. Ultra-Orthodox Jews were exempted from Israel's compulsory military service under religious grounds ever since the formations of the country in 1948. Now while the Israel-Hamas conflict rages on, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government proposed a bill that would make military service mandatory for Haredis as well. While there have been protests from the Ultra-orthodox community on a large scale, others in Israel support this. The country is more or less divided on the issue, with major leaders threatening to withdraw from the unity government if the bill passes. Watch the video to know more about the protests, and how they can affect Israel's unity during these exceptional times.
