Lucca is known as an Italian "Città d'arte" (City of Art) from its intact Renaissance-era city walls. The rectangular grid of its historical centre preserves the Roman street plan, and the Piazza San Michele occupies the site of the ancient forum.

Lucca was the first stop on the pilgrim route to Rome. Its' churches are many. Here is a look at their main church: San Martino Cathedral
