Why is Facebook so bad?
For the longest time, I couldn't quite grasp the reason behind the toxicity that permeates certain online spaces, particularly Facebook groups dedicated to photography. However, after careful consideration, I believe I have finally pieced together the puzzle.

Now, you might be wondering, why does it even matter? Well, let me shed light on this issue by sharing the experiences I've heard from numerous newcomers who feel reluctant to share their work, be it photographs or videos, out of fear of facing harsh criticism from self-proclaimed experts lurking in these groups. This phenomenon isn't limited to camera enthusiasts; it extends to all social media platforms and Facebook in general. Anyone who dares to express an opinion or showcase their creations can become a target.

Sadly, in the realm of camera groups, people join not only to connect with like-minded individuals, which is a significant topic on its own, given our postmodern world's dire need for genuine community, especially at a local level. Virtual groups have become the closest thing we have to conversing with peers outside of our workplaces. This cultural crisis highlights the difficulty adults face in finding genuine friendships. But let's set that aside for now.

The primary reason people post in these groups is that they are eager to improve their photography skills as they embark on this hobby. They yearn for constructive feedback and a sense of growth. Alternatively, they simply wish to share their work, even if they aren't currently making a living from it. However, deep down, they harbor aspirations of turning their passion into a profession. This desire often stems from the widespread dissatisfaction people feel toward their current jobs. Moreover, many individuals crave a creative outlet that can provide them with purpose, which is an equally vital aspect of their lives that should not be underestimated.
