Kirk and Jason Giordano Plastering Inc.

This video explains removing and re-installing stucco on an existing stucco wall.
The previous wall was not lathed correctly.

The owners removed the faulty stucco wall; we inspected the existing lath and concluded the cause of the leak was improper lathing.

What’s that mean? Excellent question; when the lath was exposed, it was determined previous lathers or stucco company had overlapped their paper incorrectly.
Instead of starting from the bottom up, they started their lath or weather barrier from the top down.
It happens when you guess how things are done instead of having a license and proper training.
When doing patchwork, install the new paper as we did under the existing one, not over it, or leaking can occur.

Water intrusion can cause mold inside the home.
Plus, there were no weep screeds when the stucco was originally installed. This is because the building was built before or pre-1980. New building codes were enacted, demanding all homes or structures must have weep or drip screeds installed on the mudsill.
FYI, use louver vents, not the open screen venting they had, as these open vents also allow rain to enter.
Remember the vents in a foundation or attic allows for adequate venting, which is necessary to prevent molding.

The moral of this video about stucco leaking repairs is never compromise lathed walls.
Instead, watch our video on how to lath properly, such as the one below this.
   • Stucco lathing instructions   Demonstrating lathing applications and instructions.
   • How to lath stud walls with self-furr...   How to lath a stud wall step by step using self-furred paperback.

We installed our new lath correctly; when the new lath passed inspection, we applied two coats of plaster.
