Fresh off of a mild update that brought in exterior and interior trims as well as an updated driver-assist package in 2021, we are expecting few changes to the 2022 Toyota Camry.

Introduced in 2018, the current-generation Toyota Camry brought this sedan to its current sporty canvas that features a striking front fascia, pronounced cutouts, sweeping character lines, and upgraded lighting elements. The then-new look has helped the Camry eschew the last of its bland styling, delivering a much more robust persona.

Inside, the Camry features an elegant and sporty cabin. The floating center console is as fetching as any in the industry. The available bright interiors, imitation leather seats, and the wide use of soft-touch materials combine to form an upscale look.

Toyota has caught up with the industry, by offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Wireless versions of one or both are in the works; we expect wider availability for the Qi-compatible wireless charging pad across more trims beginning in 2022.

Under the hood, the Camry relies on two engine choices. Most models come with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with upwards of 206 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. Also available is a rare-for-the-segment V6. This one displaces 3.5 liters with an output of 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. Both engines work with an 8-speed automatic transmission. We expect an all-wheel-drive option will continue with the base engine for 2022.

The Camry has long led in all things driver-assist technology. In 2021, the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ package rolled out, bringing with it enhancements to pedestrian and cyclist detection in low-light conditions. Further, the package includes updates to the dynamic radar (adaptive) cruise control system, enabling the Camry to pass slower-moving vehicles more smoothly. Finally, the lane departure alert system receives improved inputs from lane tracing assist to keep this sedan centered in its lane. This system will carry forward in 2022.
Pricing & Release Date

There is no official on-sale date for the 2022 Toyota Camry, but based on fleet order documents, we expect it to begin arriving in late summer 2021.

Pricing is also not available. As a carryover vehicle, we expect pricing to remain close to the current model’s $26,040 to $36,540 (destination fees included) MSRP.

This midsize sedan will take on the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Kia K5, and the Hyundai Sonata.
