What if you had $40,000 CAD ($29,500 USD) to spend on a two seat, summer sports car? Would you play it safe and get the 2023 Mazda MX-5? Or do you take the risk on a used Honda S2000?

The 2023 MX-5 is still powered by a 2.0L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder that can produce 181 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque (135 kW & 205 Nm). The engine is able to accelerate the car from a stop to 100 km/h in around 5.7 seconds.

The Honda S2000 came equipped with a 2.0L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder in the earlier model years. That engine produced 237 hp & 153 lb-ft of torque. But the later model years received a bigger 2.2L engine that produced the same horsepower but more torque; 162 lb-ft.

When it comes to prices, the 2023 MX-5 starts at $33,900 CAD ($28,050 USD) with this demo vehicle being equipped to the price of $42,750 CAD ($36,645 USD).

As for the Honda, at the time that I’m filming this video, you can get an early model year with about 80,000 to 140,000 km for around $35,000 to $42,000 CAD. Of course these numbers will vary by your region, the mileage of the car, and other factors. So you’ll have to do quite a bit of homework to land a good deal on a used Honda S2000.
