Does your reusable mask actually protect you? We tell you what works.

The most important rule when wearing face masks: It should be tight, leaving no openings, no gaps.

What works? The mask should be made of at least two layers of tightly woven cotton. Even better if there’s a built-in pocket to insert filter.

Aside from cotton, four-layer natural silk, chiffon, flannel and 100% polyester are also effective. Look out for filters made from non-woven fabric such as polypropylene.

Face masks alone will not protect you from COVID-19, but wearing a mask protects others from your droplets and aerosols. That’s why a collective effort works. #kitajagakita
