Are comedy and tragedy interchangeable or are they actually the same thing? Try and watch the sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond,” without the laughter and you may rethink the difference between what's funny and what's sad.

Great comedians are often masters at laughing at their own pain and presenting their life tragedies through the lens of comedy for the amusement of their fans.

But it's beyond sad when great comedians who have brought so much laughter and joy to our lives die tragic deaths. We'll leave it up to you to decide whether comedy and tragedy are two sides of the same coin, but here are some comedians who did in fact die tragically.
