The ship mill on the Weser river near Minden is the only reconstructed and functional ship mill in which grain is still ground. Another copy of a total of two reconstructions is located at Ginsheim at the Rhine river. There is no preserved original anywhere in Germany.

The mill building is 13 meters long and 4.4 to 5.65 meters wide. The ten blades of the water wheel, which measures 5 meters in diameter and width, drive a 800 kg millstone.
