Even though Ford’s top people have said this many times, this new edition of the Maverick is obviously a HUGE departure from the small car from the 1970s, which had the same name. It does seem to keep its low prices, small size, and gas efficiency. You can find out everything you need to know about the 2022 Ford Maverick in this video!

The Maverick Legacy

Ford first made the Maverick in 1970. It was meant to compete with imports from Europe and Asia. Even though it has been largely forgotten, the Falcon was initially built to replace the old Maverick after the Mustang took sales away from it. This car helped Ford move their entry-level cars in a new direction, and the timing couldn't have been better for Ford as the world was starting to go through the gas crisis of the 1970s.

Like the original Maverick, the new Maverick is one of the lowest sticker price vehicles in Ford’s lineup. The new generation has the lowest starting price of any pickup truck in North America. Ford says that the Maverick is one of the most budget-friendly four-wheel vehicles on the market. It also has one of the lowest base prices in the entire automotive industry since these days only a few cars start at less than $19,995.

Ford Maverick Trim Packages

Like its bigger, older brothers, the Maverick has three different trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat. Each one has a different set of features. Each level has newer technology, output power, towing capacity, and exterior options. Let's look at some of the essential features and differences between these trims.

1. XL

While it is technically the "bare bones" version of the three trims, don’t think this is a stripped down truck. Ford made sure to include a long list of tech and comfort features that will make any car buyer want to buy one.

The 2.5-liter hybrid engine with auto start-stop tech is standard, but you can get the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission that can tow 1,500 pounds with the right equipment. The standard drivetrain is FWD, but the EcoBoost has the option of AWD. The body is made of a single piece, making it safer and more fuel-efficient by having a lower center of gravity.

2. XLT

The XLT packs in more options without a huge bump in price.
XLT now has 17" aluminum painted wheels instead of steel on the XL. The inside has changed from the standard black onyx cloth to navy pier and slate cloth with orange accents. The FLEXBED's storage space gets a boost thanks to cubbies that have been added. In addition, the XLT gets cruise control, exterior power side-view mirrors, and a keyless entry pad called a SecuriCode that lets you get into the car.

3. Lariat

The Lariat edition is the top-level of trim for the Maverick and has the same features as the XL and XLT, but with a few key refinements. The 8-way seats for the driver are now standard, and the 6-way power seats for the passenger are now optional. An LED screen in the dashboard cluster is now 6.5 inches wide. The cluster now sits on 18-inch wheels. Ford has also added some comfort and convenience features, like a push-to-start button, dual-zone temperature regulation, leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power sliding rear window, ambient lighting, USB ports, and a power sliding rear window.

Fuel efficiency, cost, and capability all work together to make the Maverick the best-selling pickup truck on the market today. It also gives it the chance to be talked about with other legendary compact pickup trucks, like the original Toyota Pickup, the Chevrolet S10, or the Datsun 620.
