Switching Tracks For Street Cars, First Streetcar Trains Leaving The Yard, Norfolk Southern Trains Passing At Ludlow Viewing Platform & Big Train With DPU Goes Up The Steep Grade Out Of The Ohio River Valley. Includes Information On Huge Development Next To Norfolk Southern Ludlow Yard. The Cincinnati Bell Connector is featured but I also took a trip 4 miles away to the Ludlow Viewing Platform.
I went to Cincinnati for the Cincinnati Reds Opening Day Parade. The Cincinnati Bell Connector streetcar line was closed for the parade. I wanted to film the streetcars leaving the car barn for the first trips after the parade. The parade went from noon to 2pm. The streetcars left the car barn just after 3:30pm and the Reds game started at 4pm. 3 of the 4 streetcars were put into service. I missed the first one just by minutes but got the next two leaving. I was here with a friend who is not a Railfan so it was very difficult to figure out how to do the filming without doing any waiting. While he was eating I filmed the trams. This video shows the employees switching the tracks and the trams running clockwise on the 3.6 mile loop.
After filming them I decided to drive 4 miles to Ludlow, Kentucky to catch a couple trains at the Railfan viewing platform. I had the same problem leaving the parking garage that I had last year. Both times I paid for parking when I entered the garage. Last year my receipt would not work when I was leaving so I had to pay a second time in order to get out of the garage. This year the same thing happened a second garage. I decided I wasn't getting fooled for this scam a second time. I put my receipt up to the machine and it would not work ( although I already paid ) so I called the number on the machine. The number says it's there in case of problems. There were no employees at the parking garage and nobody answered the number. We tried to lift the gate up and it was built to prevent that. Another car was in the other lane with the same problem. I was thinking about driving through the gate when a woman with a months pass put her pass up to the machines and both of us were able to drive out. She left while other cars were coming so I don't know how they got out unless they paid a second time and I don't know if they had the same problem. We were at the Findlay Garage. It appears to be new. From now on I am only parking on the street. My car was broke into at one parking garage when I went to a model train convention.
Next, we went over to the Ludlow Viewing Platform. This is the new platform that I did a series of videos about when it was being built. When we got there an intermodal train was sitting there waiting to enter Gest Street Yard in Cincinnati. A southbound mixed freight pulled up and stopped. The northbound intermodal proceeded to Cincinnati. I decided to go near the top of the hill and catch the southbound train there since it would be more exciting. Before I left I explained what all the construction is across the tracks.
I stopped at Beechwood Road in Crescent Springs and caught the train going past with the locomotives working hard. This big train had a DPU near the rear. That was awesome watching it cross the railroad crossing with all that power.
