How much do I charge for cookies? How long does 1 cookie take to decorate from start to finish? What about a set, how long does it take all together? Is it possible to make a profit? See below some of my thoughts on pricing cookies (after the links).

Follow me from start to finish on a special cookie order I did recently. Although I don't sell cookies anymore (just make them for very close family & friends), I talk about pricing and how much I'd make if I would price them the same as when I started out.

It always depends on your area and in general how expensive you are. Where I live has gotten quite expensive so make sure your prices reflect that. When you first start out, of course you will start a bit cheaper, but make sure you are not selling yourself short and giving away your cookies for free.

Make sure to factor in things like details, colours, how big the cookies are, if you will be bagging them, adding metallics etc. All these things affect the price as it takes extra time and effort or special materials and should be reflected in the price,.

When I first started, I Charged between $2.50 & $3 for my very first paid order. The next order I said I would make my base price $3. That lasted a few months as I realized how much work goes into making cookies and how much I spent on supplies, tools and packaging. Then I said I won't go less than $4 a cookie and that would be for a simpler cookie, details, metallics & bags/bows would all be extra.

For this set I would have charged $6-$7 dollars per cookie. $6 for just the cookie and $7 would be with packaging them and the ribbon.

There is no right or wrong, but if you want to make it a profitable business, you have to find the right clientele who will pay premium prices for premium cookies. I'd rather make 100 cookies at $6 a cookie than do 200 cookies at $3. So if you lose some clients that don't want to pay your prices, it's ok. Work smarter not harder!
