A lot of people in this dunya run on inflated egos. But when we look at the seerah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, we will learn that despite the honour and prophethood that Allah bestowed him, he ﷺ remained humble throughout his entire life.

For example, the Prophet ﷺ didn’t have a special, designated seat, like how VIPs have nowadays. Rather, he ﷺ would sit among the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) — that was just his character. One time, a stranger walked into the gathering but couldn’t recognize the Prophet ﷺ among the companions, until he asked about him ﷺ. From this incident, the companions asked the Prophet’s ﷺ permission to make a designated place for him to sit, so that people may recognise and go directly to him ﷺ for their need. [Sunan Abi Dawud 4698 | Graded authentic by al-Albani]

In another hadith, it was mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ would take the time to say salaam to the children, and pat their heads. [Sahih Ibn Hibban]

Was the Prophet ﷺ just as humble and compassionate towards his family? The Prophet’s ﷺ wife, `Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was asked about this, and she responded: “He (ﷺ) used to keep himself busy serving his family; and when it was time for the prayer, he would get up for prayer.” [Sahih al-Bukhari 6039]

Even though the Prophet ﷺ was far better than everybody else in this dunya, he ﷺ remained humble towards his family and other people. Allah says:

🔵 ❛And do not walk on the earth arrogantly. Surely you can neither crack the earth nor stretch to the height of the mountains.❜ [Surah a-Isra’ 17 : 37]

The Prophet ﷺ lived by the Qur’an, and so too must we. Know that no matter how much we think we can flex ourselves, we cannot even reach the height of the mountains. Our beginning was merely from dust and mud, and we will one day return to dust and mud again. So let us remain humble for His sake.

May Allah make us His humble servants in this world, and elevate our ranks in the hereafter.
