In the previous Love and Thunder trailer we got a glimpse at Jane Foster as Mighty Thor.
And in this awesome trailer, we get to see a lot more of Jane in action.
Though, the trailer doesn’t give us any hints into how Jane becomes Mighty Thor.
But we think we know how Jane becomes worthy and gains Thor’s power. And also how Mjolnir will be reformed.

And not only that, but we got to talk about why the hammer choses Jane and doesn’t go back to Thor.
Also, how the MCU will address the tragic aspects of Jane becoming Mighty Thor, and that’s her cancer.
So let’s talk about how all of this could play out in Love and Thunder.

Before we get into how all of this is going to play out in the movie, we got to talk about the story from the comics where Jane becomes Mighty Thor.

Jane becomes worthy of Mjolnir after Thor loses his worthiness.
That goes down in the “Original Sin” storyline.
Where Nick Fury whispers to Thor that Gorr the god butcher was right. Gorr the god-butcher is going to be the villain in Love and Thunder.

And the thing Gorr was right about was that all the gods are selfish, and they just ruin things in the universe.

Deep down Thor kinda agrees with what Gorr says, so he loses his confidence in his godhood and feels unworthy. And that makes him unworthy of Mjolnir.

And by the way, this story is the aftermath of the brilliant Gorr the god butcher storyline from Jason Aaron. It's really one of the best Thor stories in the comics, and I really hope that the MCU will adapt certain parts of it in the movie.

After Thor becomes unworthy, the hammer choses Jane as its new owner. And that’s how Jane becomes the Mighty Thor. And she proves that she is worthy of that title, many times over, with her heroics and sacrifices.

Unfortunately becoming Mighty Thor is both a blessing and a curse for Jane. Because before the hammer chose her, Jane was diagnosed with breast cancer.

When she is in god-form her cancer is completely gone. But once she reverts back to human form, she still has cancer.

The side effect of getting Thor’s powers is that all the chemotherapy treatment is purged from her body, and that makes the cancer metastasize and get far worse.

So being Thor is literally killing her. And yet, Jane keeps putting her life on the line to help others and be the hero.

And Taika Waititi confirmed that the movie will be sticking pretty closely to Jane’s storyline in the comics. But clearly some things will need to be adjusted for Love and Thunder, to work with the story in the movie.

And now let’s talk about how Mighty Thor’s story will be done in the MCU.

Let’s start with how Mjolnir is fixed.
Well, actually let’s address that. Because when you take a close look at the hammer, it’s clear that the hammer isn’t actually fixed.
We can still see the cracks from it being destroyed.
So it’s not exactly reforged, but more like the hammer’s pieces have been glued together. I guess by some combination of science and magic. Or just some Flex tape…

Jane is a very smart woman, she’s a leading astrophysicist and astronomer, and she is an expert on all things related to Asgard. She is the first human mortal who probably ever set foot on Asgard. All of those things are the reason why she received a Nobel prize.
