Engine HP vs Wheel HP. What is the difference between hp and whp? The difference is where the power is measured. Engine horsepower is measured at the flywheel, while wheel horsepower is measured at the (wait for it) wheels! There are losses associated with the drivetrain that cause these numbers to be different.
