The Asia Workshop Series: W2 REFRAME is the second workshop in a series of inter/intra-city workshops that brings together an interdisciplinary network of Utopia’s allies from Dhaka, Kathmandu, and Manila to reframe and find opportunities for new ideas to address the pressing urban challenges of W1 SURFACE (see video in channel).

The W2 reframe workshop was set out into three thematic areas of:

I. ACCESS
Many people manage to dwell in the city, despite the wide gaps in accessibility to different services and opportunities which could range from basic necessities to things that provide upward mobility.
How might we flip the dominant service provision approach from perception of to actual users' (urban resident) needs?

II. REPRESENTATION
We represent the minority of the city, and should seek to understand how the majority make decisions, navigate the built environment and view informality. How might we amplify the needs and experiences of the underrepresented majority of the city? How might we bring inclusive narratives and narrators to the decision making tables?

III. MINDSETS
The past events, leadership, practices shapes and narrows how users, policy makers and those with influence value and prioritize the world around them. This visibly affects our cities across the board - including their design, our social structure, governance patterns, and approaches to education.

How might we shake this grip and pivot our vantage points to reveal underlying and authentic stories and ideas of new and existing urban experiences that can shape a more user-centered city or use it to make better choices?
