New XPeng P7 2023 in-depth Walkaround

The XPeng P7 stands as a formidable contender against rivals such as Tesla's Model 3 and the Hyundai Ioniq 6, boasting an impressive blend of cutting-edge technology and extended range. However, it does not entirely elude a somewhat lengthier narrative in terms of interior fit and finish. Additionally, while it competes strongly, its packaging doesn't achieve the same level of precision as its potential counterpart, the BYD Seal.

While the P7 shares its foundational framework with XPeng's recently introduced G9 SUV, it adheres to a 400-volt electric system rather than the 800V setup seen in the taller G9 model. This configuration limits the P7's maximum charging speed to 175kW. Nonetheless, this figure is far from disappointing and aligns well with the car's overall performance. The P7 offers a single battery option – an 82.7kWh NMC-chemistry pack, providing a commendable usable capacity. Particularly noteworthy is the range it delivers, especially in the context of the entry-level version equipped with a single motor, which we are test-driving today.

Under the hood, the XPeng P7 houses a single electric motor powered by an 82.7kWh battery pack. This configuration grants the vehicle a notable power output of 272bhp, accompanied by a substantial torque of 440Nm. The power is transmitted through a single-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels. Acceleration from 0 to 62mph is achieved in just 6.7 seconds, underlining the P7's commendable performance capabilities. The top speed caps at 124mph, showcasing the vehicle's potential for swift journeys.

One of the P7's standout features is its impressive range, with a capable distance of 358 miles on a single charge. This factor contributes significantly to the car's viability for extended journeys and day-to-day use alike. Charging is facilitated by a maximum rate of 175kW, enabling a 10-80% charge in just 29 minutes. This rapid charging capability enhances the P7's practicality and convenience for drivers seeking efficient charging solutions.
