Muzzle Training Your Dog!

The most forgotten-about stage of muzzle desensitisation is in the handling!
In order to fasten a clip or buckle behind your dog's ears, you need them to feel completely comfortable with both of your hands being behind their head at the same time.

There is no use spending all of your time in getting your dog to feel happy with their face being inside the muzzle, if you then suddenly move both hands to behind their head where they can't see what you're doing.

Start off with one hand - which most dogs are usually comfortable with - and gradually introduce your second hand.

This may take a few attempts. Give regular opportunities for your dog to walk away if they want to by taking your hands off, and wait for their response - remember you need to keep in line with what your dog is happy with, so don't rush this important stage.

In light of recent events and upcoming legislation for XL Bully's I am re-sharing my muzzle posts again. I will also share more Muzzle Desensitising videos on my YouTube channel (@ElliesDogBehaviourVault) shortly.

Thanks for watching!!
