We get into another EV, Rivian’s R1S, fundamentally the same as their R1T pickup truck, breaking down procedures in handling this platform for Towing and Roadside complications, 12 Volt Jump Start, Lockout, Shifting to Neutral and Connection points for loading to Rollback Tow Trucks. We visit our favorite Road Ranger, run it across the scale for a T3 official weigh in. Then throw it on the lift to see what’s going on underneath and an up close and personal with the Rivian’s technical front and rear suspension. A suspension deep dive ensues, taking a closer look at connection points for loading, we even pull the wheels off one side for better look at what’s hiding back there and dispel some misinformation surrounding electric vehicles that’s been blowing around the Towing and Roadside training scene in 2022. Repossessors are not left out in this one as we speak to concerns with this platform relevant to Auto Load Wrecker handling of this vehicle should they ever run across one during repossession work. As with other EV’s, there are special concerns here in freewheeling a powered axle during towing or repossession events and detailed explanations why it must be avoided. Rivian R1S/R1T are well known for their off-road prowess and ability to raise to 15”, that adjustable suspension will even aid in tire change events should the need arise.
