From experimental design aircraft; to unique and weird boats; these are the 15 STRANGEST Airplanes and Ships in the World

HEY YOU ! There are more awesome videos being made every week,

15. White Knight 2 | SCALED COMPOSITES

The white knight 2 is a cargo aircraft, that is designed to carry the SpaceShipTwo spacecraft…. In essence, the WK2 is a mothership.

Lets back up a little, so we can understand whats going on here.

So the Virgin Galactic company owns the aptly called Spaceship company, which is in the business of space tourism.

The WK2 will carry the spacecraft to a fedora release altitude, and all the people on board the spacecraft will get to enjoy the final frontier. Well… the sub-orbital final frontier. As of right now, they are still in the testing phase of this massive project.

I know, it sounds crazy, but we are living in the future folks ! Get with the times. Before we move on, I would like to introduce you to the White Knight’s competition, Chad, the stratolaunch carrier.

14. RP FLIP | Gunderson Brothers Engineering

13. Airlander 10 | Hybrid Air Vehicles

12. Novgorod | Imperial Russian Navy

11. Vought V-173 | Vought

I wasn’t even planning this segway, but here we are, from round ships, to round planes. V-173, nicknamed “the flying pancake”.

It was one of the first, strange, “all wing” airplane designs and as bizarre as it looked, it did provide high maneuverability

Unfortunately, it was just one more of those weird designs that people learned valuable information from but was never used in any official capacity. At least the model is still up on display.

10. Hughes Glomar Explorer | Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock Co

9. NASA AD-1 | Ames Industrial Co

The AD-1 is another experimental aircraft from the Cold War Era. This time NASA was interested in seeing how far aircraft wings could be pivoted, as it turns out this plane could pivot its wings up to 60 degrees.

The plane was built and tested between 1979 and 1982 but the first designs for such aircraft came from Germany in 1944.

The test was a success, the so called oblique wing aircraft flew, never crashed, and NASA scientists got some valuable information. You can still see the plane on display at the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos, California.

8. Floating Prison | Avondale Industries

7. V-22 Osprey | Boeing

6. HSV-2 | Incat

5. Proteus 281 | Scaled Composites

Hey would you look at that, another Scaled Composites design on this list, these guys sure know how make weird looking planes !

The 281 Proteus is a High Altitude Long Endurance aircraft, it is capable of orbiting a point, 63,000ft (19,200m) for 18 hours.

This plane has been a massive success, it has been used by multiple U.S. Agencies, so next time you are doing something shady in your backyard, just remember the NSA could have one of these bad boys hovering miles above.
