As professional plumbers, we clear stubborn drain clogs almost every day. Occasionally, we have a client ask us if there is anything they can do to help prevent future clogged drains. While there is no magic pill, there is one product that we use that has been extremely successful. This liquid enzyme drain treatment product contains fast acting grease and waste digesting bacteria and biodegradable, safe soil and grease removers to eliminate drain line build up.

Let me show you how to apply it to your drain. There are many products on the market, so make sure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions exactly. For preventive use, you will mix 2oz of liquid enzyme with 8oz of warm water for every 2 household occupants. I find it easiest to mix it up the enzyme drain treatment in 10 ounce batches with a measuring cup and repeat the process for every two people in your home. This will keep your system "charged" with friendly bacteria that will work for an extended period of time eating away at the biodegradable waste building in your drain system.

Now you might be wondering if this will unclog a completely stopped up drain. Technically it could. But it would take a long time and that is not the main purpose of its use. There are instructions with most liquid enzyme treatment products for how to mix up a batch and how to apply it where you have a slow drain. However, we find that it is most effective when used on a regular basis as a preventative measure. Treating your drains with a quality liquid enzyme, on a regular basis, is a highly effective way to keep them flowing freely.

Andy's Pipe Dream technicians are practicing social distancing and are equipped with the proper personal protection equipment to ensure your health and welfare with every drainage system service visit.
