Shadow Minister for Women Tanya Plibersek says the family of an Afghan interpreter who worked for the ADF and was murdered by the Taliban have been “stonewalled” in their attempts to receive assistance from Australia.

Ms Plibersek said it was “unacceptable” the government is refusing to release information about those who helped the ADF in Afghanistan and are applying for visas.

“We’ve been told there's about 280 Australians and Australian permanent residents still stuck in Afghanistan but the government refuses to release information about others who have helped us that are applying for visas,” she told Sky News host Alan Jones.

“The family of this man who was murdered have tried to get assistance ... and they’ve asked for help from people who served side by side with him so they could talk about the role that he played with them

“And they’ve been stonewalled at every turn. It’s just not acceptable.”
