Canon C70 4K Video Test
My Canon C70 finally arrived. I took quite a while to get to Australia. So few month ago I got a chance to test out the Canon C300 III. (Link down below) And I fall in love with the camera. The 16 stops of dynamic range is still beautiful. But I didn’t wanna spend more money on an EF camera. As I’m 80% switched to Canon mirrorless. So I didn’t wanna spend another AU$20K on the C300 Mark III. But lucky, Canon brought out a mini C300 Mark III., the C70. And I love small camera. And a small Cinema camera is even better.

So the C70 uses the same sensor as the C300 III. And the C70 sharing lots of features from the C300 III. The only thing missing is the RAW recording on the C70. My C200 and R5 shoots RAW. But I don’t really use it as I do weddings and live events most of the time. RAW is just not practical. Plus when the camera has 16 stops of DR. I reckon you don’t really need RAW. (My opinion). I reckon 10Bit is more useful for me.

So during the test, I have set the camera to C-log 2. And this is a new thing for me. I didn’t expect it was that flat. It was way harder to grade than the C-log 3. But once you got it right. The result is beautiful.

2020 is a crazy year for cameras. First we got the Canon R5 which shoots 8K. Then we have the Sony lowlight king replacement the A7SIII. Then also the first RF mount cinema camera from Canon. Overall I couldn’t be happier with the C70. No matter how sharp is the 8K footage on the R5. I reckon the cinema camera always have better detail with the 1 to 1 pixel read out. I think it is my new favourite camera now.
