This is a post roll video after the main video mentioned in the above link. I'm going to tear down this broken CV axle to examine the point of failure. This vehicle was towed in and was unable to drive. Most front wheel drive cars and vans have drive axles like this one. Unlike a typical driveshaft with u joints, CV axles have a constant velocity joint that provides a smoother rotation resulting in less driveline vibrations. It uses ball bearings and machined surfaces to achieve a smooth directional change of engine and transmission torque to the wheels. We remove the cv boot and clean out the worn out bearing grease that is packed in the boot. Inside we find chunks of bearing metal and other materials. She shaft is completely separated from the damage.
