Rated P-G: This movie contains some violent and disturbing scenes as well as the use of language not fit for young viewers. This Lego film is based on historical characters and settings from the era of the Byzantine Empire (330-1453). This is No Budget Films' 11th feature film but a stand-alone not related in any way to all previous films from the channel save for its Byzantine setting. This political, war, and family drama film takes place in the late 12th century where the Byzantine Empire under the Komnenos Dynasty is about to face political turmoil following the death of a capable leader, Emperor Manuel I Komnenos (r. 1143-1180). At the same time, keep in mind that this film is a work of ALTERNATE HISTORY wherein the story begins with events that actually took place in real history but as it progresses, the film would change the course of history itself becoming a "fan fiction" story. This 12th century Lego epic film is directed by Powee Celdran and is No Budget Films' first international collaboration project. Its story is based on an alternate history story I previously wrote, read it below:

This film opens in the year 1180, the Byzantines had lost a strong and capable, although arrogant and overambitious emperor, Manuel I Komnenos (voiced by Angelo Lacson) who had a successful reign of almost 40 years. Manuel's death too would signal the end of this Byzantine golden age known as the "Komnenian Restoration" that Manuel, his father Emperor John II (r. 1118-1143), and grandfather Emperor Alexios I (r. 1081-1118) ruled over. With Manuel's only son Alexios II (Mario Puyat) being a young child at only 11 when succeeding his father in 1180, he is under the regency of his mother Empress Maria of Antioch (Gen Maramba) who is not accepted by the empire's people for her Western Latin heritage as she is for one from the Crusader Principality of Antioch and a Norman by blood, which was a historical enemy of the Byzantines. With a child and his unpopular and incompetent Latin mother in charge of the empire and talks of the Bulgarians attempting to separate from the empire too, two powerful generals who belong to the imperial Komnenos Dynasty as well- Andronikos Kontostephanos (Carlos Francisco) and Andronikos Angelos (Igi Rollan)- must make the bold move of betraying the empress and her son and supporting the claim of the people's champion, Andronikos Komnenos (Andre Martin), the estranged cousin of the late emperor Manuel who as a conman and ex-convict had been banished from the empire for years for treason against the late emperor. As the rivalry between the empress-regent and her stepdaughter Maria Komnene (Jen Tarnate)- daughter of Manuel I from his first marriage- begins to dominate the empire, the people rally behind Andronikos Komnenos seeing him as a champion of their Greek identity and their anti-Western sentiments, namely their hatred towards the empress-regent. Little do the people and even the generals Kontostephanos and Angelos know that the handsome and charming yet sly Andronikos has his own ulterior motive to seize the throne and rule to have revenge on the memory of Manuel, the cousin he so hated by going as far as letting the people carry out a bloody massacre of the imperial capital Constantinople's Latin population, killing off Manuel's entire bloodline, and ridding the empire of the aristocracy as well in order to plunge Byzantium into a totalitarian dictatorship. With Andronikos gaining ground and the Normans of Sicily too declaring war on Byzantium, the young emperor Alexios II's position and that of his closest family members is in danger and only a twist of fate could turn their situation around, hence the usage of the movie's slogan "Deus ex machina".
