In another interview with Richard Mackenzie, Ahmed Shah Massoud speaks of death -- how it is hard for those left behind but a blessing for the person going to the other world. That day, he had learned of the death of a longtime friend and colleague in the mujahideen who had fallen in combat near the Salang. The interview took place in Taloqan in the summer of 1989.
