This is a filmed record of the moving performance given by the City Voices Writers' Group of an original script by their co-founder Paul Williamson and produced by Alan Barnett - and is dedicated to the 57 men and boys who lost their lives in the Sneyd Pit Disaster on New Year's Day 1942.
The story of the explosion and events of January 1st and the information revealed over the following days is told in words, rhyme and song - with information taken from contemporary accounts and personal reminiscences.
The performance took place at the Holy Trinity Church, Sneyd, near to the former site of Sneyd Colliery, on the 75th Anniversary of the Disaster. The City Voices Writers' Group is a mix of poets, short story writers and script/play writers, and they have raised thousands of pounds for local and national charities over the last 20 years.
