Simply put: the 2021 version of the Mitsubishi Mirage is the best one yet. While the car is still the slowest of the slow, and the 3-cylinder 78hp engine still leaves MUCH to be desired, the 2021 Mirage now comes standard with forward-collision mitigation, automatic high beams and a 7” touchscreen. Mitsubishi also updated the front and rear of the Mirage, giving it a much-needed boost in the looks department: an hourglass shape chrome design now flanks the front between LED lights (on our SE trim), while the body panel molding out back has also been updated and thick black lines now surround each taillight housing. The Mirage also loses the GT trim level for 2021, and instead adds what Mitsubishi calls the Carbonite Edition, which is the third priciest model (ES, LE, Carbonite Edition, SE). The Mirage is simple and affordable A to B transportation free of fuss, drama or extra cost. And it’s 39MPG combined fuel economy is nothing to shake a stick at. But is more green in your pocket a good enough trade off for a whiny, wheezing engine and lackluster acceleration? You be the judge.
