Giga Berlin's Tesla effect is changing the German auto job market.

The software specialists at Textkernel analyzed the German job market in the automotive industry using their own algorithm. The AI-based study provides interesting insights into the effects of the corona pandemic and the "Tesla effect."

Giga Berlin is promising a quick recovery after job fall.

The results of the study by Textkernel for WirtschaftsWoche show a noticeably rapid recovery in the need for skilled workers in the automotive industry after the onset of the corona pandemic. With the beginning of the first lockdown, the German automotive industry initially experienced a massive slump of 24 percent. As a result, job offers in this sector also fell sharply in the first quarter of 2020. The analysts at Textkernel suspect that the reason for the sharp decline in job advertisements was that only absolutely necessary positions were advertised externally during this period. However, just as quickly as the demand for labor fell, it rose again after the company holidays in July and August 2020. While the number of all insurable jobs on offer was only 600 in May last year.

Tesla is increasing the number of vacancies through Giga Berlin.

It is also noteworthy that the 2020/21 winter lockdown brought automobile production back into trouble, but this did not negatively affect job vacancies. According to the analysis, one of the main reasons for this was the Tesla-Effect. With the construction of its new Gigafactory in Grünheide near Berlin in Brandenburg, the American electric vehicle manufacturer created a "special offer" of jobs, as a large number of new workers were required to build the factory. This explains why Tesla had significantly more jobs to offer than its competitors in the first quarter of 2021. In March and April, Tesla dominated the auto job market in Germany with 1,300 out of a total of 2,000 jobs. In May the numbers had declined again, at that time Tesla only had 600 jobs , Volkswagen and Daimler each around 350 jobs.

Software developers have the best cards because these days electric cars, and especially Tesla vehicles are computers on wheels.

Another finding that the analysis of Textkernel has shown is that of all the professions required in the automotive industry, software developers are clearly the most sought-after. The increasing networking of modern vehicles and the increasing complexity of software structures and onboard computers mean that the mere further training of existing staff is by no means sufficient to keep up with technical progress. While software used to be bought by car manufacturers, nowadays it is more and more internalized in order to keep up with the times and also to protect against aggressive suppliers. The constant percentage increase in IT jobs within engineering since 2017 can be explained by these developments.
