Opened in 1973, the old Charlotte Convention Center, sitting in the block bounded by Trade, College and 4th Streets, served the city until the mid-1990s. The structure was brought down in a controlled implosion on Sunday morning, June 26, 2005, to make way for Epicentre, an entertainment complex that now occupies the space. Footage recorded over-the-air from Channel 16, the Charlotte Government Channel.
