While the common consensus is that new AI tools will benefit people by providing better information and enabling more personalized services, Professor Ali Makhdoumi discusses how the extensive data collected by online platforms may also enable behavioral manipulation, whereby the platforms modify user behavior in a way that benefits them but not necessarily the user.
