How to install a kill switch to prevent your car from being stolen. This is useful when parking your car in "sketchy" neighborhood when you don't want somebody to steal the keys from you or break in and hot wire your car.

We install a kill switch to stop the fuel pump from running thereby stopping the car from starting. You can also take it from the ignition coil or other fuses that can prevent the car from running.

How to put a kill switch.

Materials:
- Switch
- Spool of speaker wire
- Wire Cutters
- Soldering Iron(See alternative 1)
- Fuse holder and Fuse
- Drill with drill bits (See Alternative 2)

Step 1: Identify a place to put the switch. From talking to people and asking them to guess where the switch would be... Most of them said under the seat so, if i were you, I would avoid putting it there.

Step 2: Find the fuse that stops the car from running. I chose the fuel pump fuse because on Honda's it stop the complete fuel system.

Step 3: Break the fuse and solder a pair of wires to the contacts. check to make the fuse no longer work and place the fuse back from where you removed it.

Step 4: Place the switch where you are going to put it.

Step 5: Run the wire from the fuse, to the switch and solder it on.

Step 6: Check the switch works and once its operational, wire the fuse in series with on of the wires.

If you used speaker wire, at a point of your choosing, splits the two wires apart and cut into one of them. place the fuse holder on the wire you cut. Then just insert the fuse and your ready to go.

DO NOT FORGET TO INCLUDE THE FUSE. if you run your car unfused and a problem happens, theres a major fire hazard.

Wires directly connected to the fuse are quickly identified, and can be bypassed quickly as well... wink wink... So maybe you can find another way.... maybe looking behind the fuse box... but if you cant find another way then this will do.

The fuse holder can be of your choosing as long as the fuse you put is designed to burn at the same amperage. Here is a link to the fuse types that exist for automotive. http://www.bdfuses.com/images/automot...

Having trouble soldering the fuse? You can buy a fuse tap to make life a little easier. It removes the need to drill and solder the fuse. Find your fuse type in the link above and look for your fuse tap on ebay or at an automotive store.

Alternative 1) You could use twist the wires together and use electrical tape to protect and hold them. (Not the best way to do this)
Alternative 2) If you don't like the idea of drilling a hole in the fuse, you could connect the fuse across the battery which will blow the fuse. Do not do this around flammable liquids or gases.
