Chinyakare is a brainchild of Julia Chigamba and her family from Harare, Zimbabwe. After coming to America Julia made her dream into reality by teaming up with her American friends who had been fans and proponents of Shona music and culture.Chinyakare Ensemble is a DIVERSIFIED GROUP made of Julia and her children, African Americans, Caucasian Americans and other African nationalities from South Africa and Guinea Conakry who are all joined in one spirit to bring an amazing Shona music and dance experience. Based in Oakland, California they regulary perform at entertainment venues throughout all the cities in and around the San Francisco Bay Area. They also perform at reggae and world music festivals, private events for organizations, companies, weddings, family gatherings etc. Teaching music and dance is also part of their goal to keep the Shona music and dance alive and growing into new areas and expanding to heal and educate people of the world as we all one.
