Sky News host Alan Jones says Australia has been “sapped by welfarism”.
“There is a massive issue brewing domestically, and that is staff shortages,” he said.
“I was talking to a manager the other day from a well-known restaurant in Sydney's CBD. I asked him to pick a number on a scale of one to 10 as to how hard it is to get staff, 10 being the hardest. He answered 20.
“Today there's a story about how restaurant owners are offering sign-on bonuses for people simply agreeing to take the job on offer.
“This is a government created problem because people are awash with cash due to the government's COVID support
payments.
“I wonder what would happen if a government had some ticker and decided to stop all those welfare payments to people who are sitting at home watching Netflix. Perhaps only then would the jobs be filled.”
