CCT is the color temperature of a LED. 2700K is warm, 3500K is medium, and 5000K is cool. Some fixtures are fixed color, others offer tunablity.

In this short tutorial, you will learn how to wire LED fixed CCT downlights into our DC low voltage lighting system. We use lower cost awg20/2 or awg18/2 wire and remove all electronics from the fixture, eliminating all single points of failure.

This video is for fixed color installations - the series wiring method shown, allows tunable white using the same one pair wiring method - so either fixed or tunable can be installed at trim. See    • ATX LED DL-120 LED fixture unboxing a...   for an example of tunable white.

For projects with the lowest cost, where perfect diming and highest efficiency is not a priority, please see our wiring diagram for details on a parallel wired, alternative with acceptable ( not perfect) dimming or even driverless simple On/Off.

The wiring diagram is shown here:

Use our wall switch dimmer/driver with 3000:1 dimming for flicker free, perfect dimming from either 120vac or low voltage power sources.

This video covers the series style of wiring, which is the most common method used with our dimmers, series wiring allows either fixed color temperature installations, or tunable white installation, with just one pair of 'skinny' wire. The DR1 shown has a 20:1 dimming ratio for fixed color installations. Upgrade at Trim to a DR2 for 3000:1 and tunable white - with the same single pair of copper installed at rough.

notes:

inside each fixture is a LED array of 3 x 11 - and nothing else - no single electronic part to fail. So, unlike a christmas tree string, these fixtures would require 11 LED chips to fail open before the string is dark, if they fail shorted - the string remains on. After 5 years, we have no installed fixture failures, because we moved the driver away from the heat.

The wire is 20/2 thermostat wire - 3 lbs / 250 ft. 14/2 Romex is 15 lbs/ 250 ft . 18/2 is 1/4 the price of Romex, 20/2 even less.

Using two wires, and having nothing smart or expensive in the fixture is revolutionary. Perfect 1000:1 dimming ratio, no flicker and no PWM artifacts, and the heat of the fixture does not cook the driver since it is at the wall switch 15 ft away nice and cool ( and dry for outdoor projects ).

Romex is 3 wires - 9 junctions per can in 3 wire nuts. Our fixed color fixtures have only one dual conductor strip/poke connector - much faster to wire
