I decided to do a deeper investigation of why the trunk failed. I looked over Honda assembly Diagrams and then closely inspected the footage from the day before which uncovered the main reason to the official root cause of the failure. A possible mistake during assembly at the factory is what seems to have caused the issue to the 2018 Honda Ridgeline trunk bed failure.

Make sure that you inspect proper assembly and I recommend take a few additional minutes to secure and guarantee this issue does not happen to you.
