William Tucker, born in 1624, is believed to be the first African born and baptized in what became the original 13 Colonies. His descendants — including Vince Tucker and Carolita Jones Cope — care for the family cemetery in Hampton to honor his legacy and the resilience of so many Africans brought to this country.
