Dr. Susanna-Assunta Sansone from University of Oxford presents "Metadata Standards."

Lecture Description
Interoperability standards enable the operational processes underlying exchange and sharing of information between different systems. In turn, these ensure digital research outputs are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (the FAIR principles doi: 10.1038/sdata.2016.18). Among the interoperability standards, one category that focuses on the descriptions, or metadata, of digital objects; in this category there are content standards, which opens datasets' content to transparent interpretation, verification and exchange. The use of content standards is vital for reproducible research, and for the integrative analysis and comparison of heterogeneous datasets from multiple sources, domains and disciplines.
In this webinar, I will introduce the wealth of content standards available in the life and biomedical sciences; their life cycle, the ecosystem of stakeholders and initiatives, working to realize a vision of integrable content standards that seamlessly become part of the research data management enterprise of the future.
