Senator Nye headed the Special Committee on Investigations of the Munitions Committee, which blamed weapon manufacturers for involving the US in World War I. He was instrumental in passing the first Neutrality Act, and remained a strong isolationist and America First leader until the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.
