All Available Superchargers Comparison

Whether you efficiently drive your electric car or you are a road warrior with a vehicle with the longest range, the need will always arise to plug it in and add more range. So the availability of supercharger networks, especially for long trip is a critical factor, and that's where the type of electric vehicle you buy makes a difference because the superchargers network is far from uniform across makers and models.

So let’s look into the various superchargers currently available and their
differences.

Tesla Supercharger Network - 02:18

Tesla's supercharger network has been around for more than 10 years, so
it should come as no surprise that the company's fast charging is as good
as it gets. Tesla has the best electric car fast-charging network across the
globe. It's reliable and user-friendly, with tons of locations all over the
world. While the other automakers are still focused narrowly on perfecting their electric cars, Tesla has been thinking about the entire vehicle system to solve consumers' core driving needs.

Electrify America Fast Charging Networks - 04:27

Electrify America network is a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group. It was
launched as part of Volkswagen’s settlement with the US government over
the diesel emissions scandal. Instead of paying a huge fine, the automaker was told to invest $2 billion in charging infrastructure. Well, it turned out to be a good investment, certainly better than fines, for Volkswagen, which now owns the biggest third-party fast-charging network in the US. Electrify America has been on a tear over the last couple of years, building out fast chargers at a Tesla-like pace, though it is still much behind Tesla in total numbers.

ChargePoint Fast Charging Networks - 06:08

Headquartered in California, ChargePoint is one of the US largest charging
networks. It has over 2000 fast networks in the US, Canada, and other
countries across the globe. Pricing at ChargePoint is unique in that the
company allows the property owner where the charger is located to set
charging rates. Some of their stations are free to use, and registration is
free. Charging can be enabled via a ChargePoint card, the company's
smartphone app, or a tap to charge-enabled phone. The ChargePoint mobile app allows you to filter for DC fast charging spots so you can easily find the one nearest you.

EVgo Fast Charging Networks - 07:18

EVgo is one of the first companies outside of Tesla to build a fast-charging network in the US, but Electrify America moves faster and has caught up quickly, with Evgo having more fast chargers at each location. EVgo, meanwhile, continues its fast charger build-out, too, partnering with
companies like General Motors. EVGo operates over 800 fast-charging
locations in 34 states and has plans to add about 3000 locations more over the next five years. Evgo fast-charging network caters to Tesla drivers—in a few California locations, the stations are even equipped with integrated Tesla connectors. Evgo fast chargers have power levels from 50 kilowatts to 350 kilowatts. According to the company, the speed at which vehicles charge is decided by the vehicle's Battery Management System— also known as the vehicle’s brain.
