Coffee in Vietnam is so yummy. Who knew it’s some of the best in the world and Vietnam is the second largest exporter in the world after Brazil!?!

Mixed with condensed milk it’s still super strong but yummy (I cheat and add a little water…or you can wait for the ice to melt).

Here is the history for fact lovers:

Coffee was introduced to Vietnam by the French in the 19th century when Vietnam was part of French Indochina. The French brought coffee plants from Brazil and planted them in Vietnam's Central Highlands region, which was found to have an ideal climate and soil for growing coffee.

Coffee cultivation took off in the 1920s and 1930s under French rule. Small Vietnamese farms grew the beans which were processed at French-owned plantations. By the 1950s, coffee exports had become Vietnam's main source of income.

During the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 1970s, coffee production declined. But after economic reforms in 1986, there was a coffee boom in Vietnam. High-yield coffee varieties were introduced, increasing productivity. Today, Vietnam is the second largest coffee producer in the world after Brazil.

Vietnamese coffee has a distinctive dark, bitter taste. The most common coffee drinks in Vietnam are ca phe sua da (iced coffee with milk) and ca phe trung (coffee topped with a beaten egg yolk). Coffee shops called quán cà phê are ubiquitous in Vietnamese cities. Sipping dark, strong coffee is a cherished social ritual in Vietnam.
