BTI Mosquito Dunks are floating, sustained-release larvicides that use a naturally derived active ingredient for long-term biological mosquito control. One ‘dunk’ takes the form of a dry, densely packed donut or briquette that can fit in the palm of your hand. Simply place a dunk in standing water, and it will work to control mosquitoes for up to 30 days.

Before using any BTI Mosquito Dunks, we recommend you wear your proper personal protective equipment or PPE. At least wear gloves, and avoid breathing in particles and contact with the eyes.

BTI Mosquito Dunks are ready-to-use and require no additional tools. Simply remove a dunk from the package and set it in contained standing water. One whole dunk is needed to treat a container with 25 to 100 square feet of surface area. To reduce waste in containers of water with less than 25 square feet of surface area, you may break a single dunk down to a half to treat 5 to 25 square feet or one-quarter of a dunk to treat 1 to 5 square feet. To treat areas greater than 100 square feet, you will need more than one dunk.

The best time to use mosquito dunks is typically after rainfall when eggs are initially laid, as hatched, feeding larvae can become non-feeding pupae in as little as a few days. This product is lethal only to mosquitoes and a few other flies and is even safe to use in fish habitats. The product will float on the water’s surface and slowly release its active ingredient, a bacterium known as Bacillus thuringiensis isrealensis, otherwise known as BTI. BTI must be ingested to be effective. Since mosquito larvae are found just underneath the water’s surface and are constantly feeding, they’ll consume the nearby bacteria around them and die shortly after.
