We continue our coverage of the Germanic Wars and the fallout of the Varian disaster at the Battle of Teutoburg Forest. The episode begins as news of the defeat reaches the Rhine frontier of Germania and is sent back to Rome. The people fly into a panic and even Emperor Augustus is said to have despaired at the news saying "Quintilius Varus, give me back my legions!" However mourning soon turned to action as the Roman Empire began to plan a counterattack. Tiberius was chosen as commander of the operation, leading 8 Legions of the Roman Army to the frontier. There he carried out a brutal series of campaigns to stabilize the border region and begin to exact revenge with retaliatory raids. However Tiberius did not strike far into the interior of Germania and was recalled in 2 short years back to Rome. Emperor Augustus was in poor health and would soon die, passing on the reigns of the Roman Empire to his adopted son. In the aftermath, Germanicus would be put in charge of Avenging Varus. His efforts would finally see justice served against Arminius and the Germanic Tribes in the Aftermath Teutoburg Forest that had rocked the Roman world.
