Lung cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer. The best chance to beat lung cancer is through early detection by following US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) screening recommendations. The 5-year survival rate of early-stage lung cancer is nearly triple that of lung cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.

The USPSTF recommends low-dose CT lung screening for those who:

- Are 50 to 80 years old, and

- Currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years, and

- Have a 20 pack-year smoking history (a pack year is one pack per day for a year).
