Former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney has criticised Joe Biden for being an “afterthought at his own event” in New York as both Barack Obama and Bill Clinton will “outshine him”.

Joe Biden has arrived in Manhattan for a massive $25 million fundraiser with Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, which will have celebrities from Stephen Colbert to Lizzo performing.

“It sounds very, very tin-eared, plus what I think a lot of people are just now starting to realise is in that star-studded sort of alignment of all the people who are there, Joe Biden is not one of the stars,” Mr Mulvaney told Sky News host James Morrow.

“Bill Clinton will outshine him; Barack Obama will outshine him; most of the celebrities will.

“He’s going to be, as he has been for a long time, sort of an afterthought at his own event.”
