The Big Bang theory is the prevailing cosmological model explaining the existence of the observable universe from the earliest known periods through its subsequent large-scale evolution. But do we really know what happened at the very beginning of the Universe? Do we know what happened at that birth event? Or we just know what came next? Professor Hiranya Peiris, British astrophysicist at University College London, best known for her work on the cosmic microwave background radiation, explains.
