The NIO ET7 was unveiled in China on 9 January 2021 at the 'NIO Day' event in Chengdu, retaining many design cues of the 2019 NIO ET Preview concept car. It will be launched in early 2022 with a starting price of ¥448.000 (~$69,200 USD). It acts as a direct competitor to Tesla's Model S sedan in China.

The NIO ET7 comes available with 3 battery options: a 70 kWh battery (NEDC range of 500 km (400 km real world range)), a 100 kWh battery (NEDC range of 700 km), and a 150 kWh solid-state battery (NEDC range of 1000 km), which has an energy density of 360Wh/kg.

The Nio ET7 2022 can be purchased without a battery. In this case, the price will be 58 000 USD. At the same time, the battery must be rented by subscription: a 70-kilowatt battery costs $150 per month, and a 100-kilowatt battery costs $230 per month. Moreover, such a subscriber scheme has been proposed for the autopilot as well. All hardware is installed in the machine by default, but activation costs $105 per month.

The ET7 has two electric motors, one in the front and rear of the car, which produce a combined output of 644 hp and 850 Nm. The 0 to 100 km acceleration is 3.9 seconds and the drag coefficient is 0.23 Cd.

The autonomous driving system in the NIO ET7 is called Aquila, which uses 33 sensors, including 11 8-megapixel high-definition cameras and a long-distance high-definition camera, a high-resolution LIDAR with a 500 m (1,640.4 ft) range, 5 millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 2 high-precision positioning units. The Aquila autonomous driving system generates 8 gigabytes of data per second which is analyzed by an onboard computer called Adam.
