How ChatGPT Works (For Non-Technical People)

My last few videos have been about the evolution of artificial intelligence, specifically with a focus on the developments and use cases of the two AIs making waves: #ChatGPT and the #MidJourney / Stable Diffussion image generators.

But, I recently got a request to explain what exactly ChatGPT is and what it can do.

This video is a primer for non-technical people to understand the basics of artificial intelligence, specifically to understand what’s under the hood of ChatGPT, the AI that’s taken the world by storm.

At its very basic level, these are the two things you need to understand about ChatGPT:

1. Chat GPT is made by Open AI, a research organization that focuses on developing and promoting friendly artificial intelligence.

2. ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence designed for answering questions, performing tasks and solving problems in a very conversational manner. It’s basically as simple as that. However, because of how complex it is, people are finding very interesting uses for Chat GPT. I’ve personally used it to write fictional stories, program hardware, discuss country policy and develop branding for a company.

What we collectively call artificial intelligence is actually a combination of many things, mostly categorized into about six broad groups: These are Machine Learning, Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing, Robotics, Expert Systems, and Fuzzy Logic.

ChatGPT harnesses the following concepts of artificial intelligence.

1. Machine Learning which is a way for computers to get better at certain tasks by learning from a wide variety of data.

2. Natural Language Processing which is a way for computers to communicate naturally with us by understanding and generating human language.

3. Neural Networks which are a type of artificial intelligence that is inspired by the structure and function of the human brain.

4. Fuzzy Logic which is a type of mathematical system that is used to represent and understand information that is uncertain, imprecise or unclear. Or… you know, fuzzy.
