Dr. Erik Peper has written extensively on the benefits, challenges, and common themes underlying mindfulness-based meditation (MM) techniques that are based in ancient Buddhist practices, and other mind-centered practices such as transcendental meditation, and body-centered practices such as progressive muscle relaxation (PMR), autogenic training (AT), and yoga. In this conversation, Dr. Peper and Richard Smoley, editor of Quest: Journal of the Theosophical Society in America, will explore the relative merits of all these approaches and how they have been adopted into contemporary behavioral medicine and also by the general public at large.

Erik Peper, Ph.D., BCB, is Professor of Holistic Health Studies at San Francisco State University, where he was instrumental in establishing the Institute for Holistic Health Studies, the first holistic health program at a public university in the United States. He is the president of the Biofeedback Foundation of Europe and past president of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback. Erik received the Biofeedback Distinguished Scientist Award in 2013 in recognition of outstanding career and scientific contributions from the Association for Applied Psychophysiology (AAPB).
